A 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.
The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.
The investigation learned how his mother received a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my apartment."
In a statement read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.
An official inquiry from police later determined the alleged burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said items was not taken in the first place".
Media reports about the supposed taken ashes attracted online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".
The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.
She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.
"This must have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".
The teenager was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his passing.
His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".
When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.
In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied digitally after the accusations.
The inquest learned that a young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.
She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".
She described him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "family is totally shattered".
He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".
The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local High School.
On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I heard".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.
The court learned his parents said they did not receive that communication.
Lead coroner told the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.
Delivering a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.
"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.
"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his interview he was freed while investigations proceeded."
The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the acts or failures of any organization led to or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
