Lately, gamers of The Sims 4 have faced significant issues with corrupted save files following a recent patch. To address this, the publisher revealed a comprehensive plan in the fall, outlining their strategy to fix the most pressing bugs.
After extensive testing, the team identified two primary causes for the save file corruption. First, scratch files—essential for game operations—are somehow disappearing, resulting in complete save corruption. Additionally, a separate issue with lot-specific data is trapping players in infinite loading loops, potentially linked to certain build behaviors like super-stuffed lots, regardless of mods.
To combat the issue of overstuffed lots, the next update will temporarily disable the bb.increaserentalunitcap command. This cheat allows gamers to add unlimited rental properties on Residential lots.
"We’re removing the bb.increaserentalunitcap with the next patch, as a preventative step as more comprehensive solutions are developed," the company explained. "While we take player agency seriously, to err on the side of safety, this action is necessary to reduce its potential risk."
Nevertheless, many users are experiencing the endless loading and corrupted data even without the cheat, prompting ongoing investigation into excessive save file size and related issues.
In a recent update, the developer revealed that they have developed a custom Python script that helps in pulling, examining, and summarizing player save information submitted by the community.
Via official channels, the team reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the issues and keeping players informed.
"We promise transparency, and although we lack a complete solution yet, advancements are happening continuously," reads a recent post. "We appreciate your understanding, your feedback, and your enthusiasm for The Sims."
The search for a permanent fix goes on, with the developer promising to provide regular updates as further details emerges.
